On August 18, 2023, the Minister for Small Business Development, Ms. Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, will lead the Small Business Development Portfolio Imbizo in Umhlabuyalingana, KwaZulu-Natal Province. The event is part of Women’s Month celebrations under the theme “Women’s Empowerment Week – Breaking Barriers, Inspiring Change,” in alignment with the National Theme “Women’s Socio-Economic Rights, Empowerment, and Resilience.”
During the Imbizo, the honorable Minister and her delegation of senior officials will inspect the Shared Economic Infrastructure Facility (SEIF). This facility serves as a resource center for micro and informal traders from Umhlabuyalingana and surrounding areas.
Collaborating with the Department of Small Business Development, Seda, and sefa, the Imbizo aims to shift the focus from a one-day Women’s Day celebration to a comprehensive, empowering “Women’s Empowerment Month.” The event will feature transformative concepts and activities designed to address women’s issues, promote gender equality, and instigate positive societal change.
Throughout the Imbizo, attendees will participate in meaningful activities and initiatives focused on strengthening women’s resilience in business and highlighting the department’s significant contributions to business development across the country. The event will serve as an excellent platform for building connections, sharing ideas, and driving change.
The Minister will present machinery and equipment to informal traders from the Umkhanyakude District and Umhlabuyalingana Municipality. This gesture demonstrates the department’s dedication to supporting and empowering South African entrepreneurs.
The small business development portfolio Imbizo is a celebration of the remarkable achievements and progress made in recent years. It is also a clarion call to expedite the provision of services to communities, aspiring entrepreneurs, and existing businesses. By providing vital resources, tools, and support, the Department of Small Business Development aims to break down barriers and inspire change for women throughout South Africa.
The Imbizo will commence at 09:00 on August 18, 2023, at the Tembe Tribal Hall. Members of the media are invited to cover this event, which promises to be a memorable and transformative experience for all involved. With the continued efforts of Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, her team, and the many inspiring entrepreneurs in attendance, the future of women’s empowerment and small business development in South Africa looks brighter than ever.
