The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Ms Thembi Nkadimeng, will be participating in an outreach programme aimed at empowering women and youth in Sekhukhune District Municipality. The programme, part of the month-long women’s month celebrations, aims to promote women’s rights and undertake more interventions for their recognition.
The National House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders (NHTKL), the Limpopo House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders (LHTKL), the Magadimana-Ntweng Traditional Council, and various other stakeholders have joined hands for this initiative. The programme will take place from 29th to 31st August 2023 at the Magadimana-Ntweng Traditional Council in Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality, Sekhukhune District Municipality.
The empowerment programme aims to implement interventions to address national priorities outlined by the government in promoting socio-economic development in traditional communities. The programme targets men, women, and youth, addressing issues such as gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, and albinism.
On 29th August 2023, Ms Nkadimeng will join the door-to-door campaign on food security. She will also visit a local school to raise awareness about GBVF, teenage pregnancy, albinism, and alcohol abuse. This visit will be an opportunity for the Minister to engage with the community and promote awareness about these crucial issues.
The partnership between CoGTA, NHTKL, LHTKL, and the Magadimana-Ntweng Traditional Council demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by women and youth in traditional communities. By raising awareness and promoting interventions that tackle these issues, the empowerment programme aims to make a difference in the lives of the people it serves.
The outreach program will feature various activities designed to promote socio-economic development and address the specific needs of women and youth in the area. These activities include workshops, discussions, and presentations from experts in the field, with the goal of empowering participants with the knowledge and resources needed to build better lives for themselves and their communities.
The NHTKL outreach programme is a testament to the power of collaboration between government, traditional leaders, and local communities in addressing pressing social issues. By working together, these stakeholders can develop and implement effective strategies to empower women and youth, fostering a more equitable society.
The ongoing commitment of Minister Nkadimeng and her team at CoGTA to uplifting women and youth in traditional communities is commendable. As the Minister engages with the Sekhukhune District Municipality and other stakeholders, she continues to be an advocate for change and progress. Through her participation in the NHTKL outreach programme, Ms Nkadimeng exemplifies the government’s dedication to creating a future where women and youth can thrive.
This outreach programme is a significant step forward in bridging the gap between government initiatives and the grassroots communities they serve. By engaging directly with the people they aim to empower, government representatives like Minister Nkadimeng can gain invaluable insights into the challenges and opportunities facing women and youth. This connection will be crucial in developing policies and interventions that are responsive to the needs of the people they are intended to serve.
As the NHTKL outreach programme unfolds, it is a reminder of the importance of collaboration and partnership in addressing social issues. By working together, government agencies, traditional leaders, and communities can create a brighter future for women and youth in South Africa.
