Minister Thembi Nkadimeng Leads DDM Ministerial Outreach in Mpumalanga

Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Ms. Thembi Nkadimeng, is embarking on a visit to Mpumalanga Province as part of ongoing engagements with municipalities and provinces throughout the country. The objective of this initiative is to offer critical support in overcoming persistent challenges that hinder the effective and efficient functioning of municipalities.

Strengthening Local Governance Structures

This visit is part of a broader effort by COGTA to strengthen local governance structures and address systemic issues hindering progress. By working closely with the relevant stakeholders, COGTA aims to develop sustainable solutions that can enhance service delivery, alleviate poverty, and promote socio-economic development in municipalities.

Collaborative Efforts for Sustainable Development

Collaborative efforts between municipalities, provinces, and the national government are vital in addressing the complex challenges faced by local communities. Through initiatives like the DDM ministerial outreach, the government is taking concrete steps towards fostering open channels of communication and supporting sustainable development in South Africa.

Critical Support to Local Government

Joining Nkadimeng on the visit to Mpumalanga will be MEC of COGTA, Mr. Mandla Msibi; Executive Mayor of Gert Sibande, Cllr Walter Mngomezulu; Executive Mayor of Govan Mbeki Local Municipality (LM), Cllr NG Zuma; Mayors of Dipaleseng LM, Dr. JS Moroka LM, Govan Mbeki LM, Lekwa LM, Msukaligwa LM, Thaba Chweu LM, and the Provincial House of Traditional Leaders.

These engagements serve as a platform for policymakers to gain invaluable insights into the issues faced by municipalities and to develop targeted strategies to address specific concerns. The visit to Mpumalanga Province is scheduled to take place on September 14 at the Govan Mbeki Local Municipality, Lillian Ngoyi Centre in Secunda, starting at 10:00 am.

Examining Unique Challenges and Successes

The visit to Mpumalanga also presents an opportunity to examine the province’s unique challenges and successes within a broader national context. As a region with diverse resources and industries, Mpumalanga has the potential to serve as a model for other provinces in addressing local issues and fostering socio-economic growth.

Tailor-made Solutions for Municipalities

During the outreach, Nkadimeng and other officials will engage in discussions with local government representatives, assess the progress of various programs and initiatives, and identify areas where further support is needed. By gaining a deeper understanding of the concerns and aspirations of local stakeholders, the government can facilitate tailor-made solutions that cater to the specific needs of municipalities.

Commitment to a Brighter Future

As the country continues to grapple with economic and social challenges, the importance of strong local government structures cannot be overstated. The minister’s visit to Mpumalanga is a testament to the government’s commitment to working together with local stakeholders in building a brighter future for all South Africans.
