Employment and Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi is set to engage with the Northern Area of Gqeberha in an outreach session from September 5th to 7th. The focus of the outreach is on amendments to the Employment Equity Act (EEA), which includes sector-specific targets.
The Employment Equity amendments aim to reduce the regulatory burden on small employers, empower the Minister to regulate sector-specific numerical targets, promulgate Section 53, and strengthen compliance by issuing EE compliance certificates. The primary theme of the outreach program is “Real transformation makes business sense.”
The Department will offer on-the-spot services to KwaNoxolo and Chetty communities on September 5th and 6th. The services offered will include registration of unemployed work-seekers, assistance with Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) claims, enquiries and complaints, Compensation Fund (CF) claims, enquiries and complaints, and addressing labor complaints related to the National Minimum Wage and other basic conditions.
The media is invited to attend and cover the sessions. The schedule for on-the-spot services and ministerial engagement is as follows:
For media inquiries, contact Sabelo Mali, Media Liaison Officer for the Ministry, at 082 729 5804 or sabelo.mali@labour.gov.za. Further information can be obtained from Ziphozihle Klaas-Josefu, Provincial Communication Officer for the Department of Employment and Labour in Eastern Cape, who is available at 082 308 6306 or ziphozihle.josefu@labour.gov.za.
The outreach program is part of the government’s dedication to addressing employment equity issues and promoting real transformation in the business sector. By engaging with communities and offering valuable services, the Minister is taking a hands-on approach to foster understanding and support for the amended Employment Equity Act.
The outreach program also provides an opportunity for residents in the Northern Area of Gqeberha to access vital services and resources that can significantly impact their lives. The Department’s commitment to empowering South Africans in their quest for employment and fair working conditions is demonstrated by bringing these services directly to the communities. The national workshops and on-the-spot services provide a platform for dialogue, education, and support, which are essential for building an equitable, inclusive workforce in South Africa.
