Minister Zizi Kodwa Leads 2023 Budget Vote Debate Week

The Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for the transformation, preservation, protection, and promotion of sport, arts, and Culture at all levels of participation will be showcased during the 2023 Budget Vote Debate Week, led by Minister Zizi Kodwa.

Highlights of the Week

One of the week’s highlights is the Budget Vote Speech Debate on 9 May. The department will present its budget vote to promote and support the arts and culture sector. The presentation aims to create an enabling environment for transforming, preserving, protecting, and promoting sport, arts, and Culture at all levels of participation.

Minister kodwa’s Leadership and Activities

In addition, Minister Kodwa will lead various activities during the week, including a visit to the Robben Island Museum on 8 May, to monitor and evaluate the state of the museum. The department will also host community conversations at the Nyanga Arts Centre. The minister and deputy minister will engage the community and stakeholders on sports, arts, Culture, and heritage issues.

Amplifying the 2023 Netball World Cup

As part of the rigorous amplification of the 2023 Netball World Cup, Minister Kodwa and Deputy Minister Nocawe Mafu will lead the activation on Thursday, 10 May. The activation aims at amplifying the efforts in bringing frenzy and festive spirit to South Africans around the upcoming Netball World Cup on 28 July 2023 in Cape Town.

Move4Health Programme

The Budget Vote Week activities will conclude with the Move4Health Programme on 10 May, which aims to promote healthy and positive lifestyles. The program will occur at Mandela Park, Khayelitsha, Cape Town, between 09:00 and 15:00.

Celebrating Africa Month

Minister Kodwa notes that the 2023 Budget Vote Debate takes place during Africa Month, a month when South Africa salutes their forebears who founded the Organization of African Unity (OAU), now the African Union (AU), on 25 May 1963 and also highlights and celebrate their Africanness in a true Pan-African spirit.

These activities demonstrate the department’s commitment to creating a sustainable recovery trajectory for the heritage, sport, and creative sector. They also provide opportunities for community engagement, media coverage, and collaboration with other entities and stakeholders. The department’s initiatives align with the government’s agenda of nation-building and promoting a healthy, winning, and socially cohesive nation through sport, arts, and Culture.
