Mochi Mochi, is a Japanese-inspired café located in the heart of Cape Town’s Heritage Square!

Interior

As soon as you step inside, you’ll be transported to a world of kawaii cuteness. The café is nicely decorated with cute corners that are perfect for taking Instagram-worthy photos. You’ll notice their logo displayed on the walls and glass windows.

Specialties

Mochi Mochi is known for its handmade mochi truffles, which are smaller than typical Japanese mochi. They come in a variety of flavors and are inspired by the playful and pretty side of Japanese food. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the savoury milk bread buns with fillings that range from wagyu beef to ramen eggs with kewpie mayo. For those with a sweet tooth, don’t miss the fluffy Japanese cheesecake, miso sticky buns, and daifuku doughnuts. And of course, the mochi ice cream is a must-try!

Interesting fact

Did you know that Mochi Mochi is the only place in Cape Town where you can find fresh Japanese confectionery? When it launched almost a decade ago, it was instrumental in awakening Capetonians’ taste buds to Japanese flavor-and-texture combinations they’d never imagined, mostly in the savory space. The head chef, Adri Morel, started to develop her own range of artisanal Japanese confections, inspired by her visits to Japan. Her exquisite handmade mochi truffles were an instant hit, and so the idea for a mochi salon was born.
