Mpumalanga Social Development Brings Social Security Services to the Community through ICROP

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has launched an Integrated Community Registration Outreach Program (ICROP) to provide essential social security services to underprivileged residents of Leslie Township in the Govern Mbeki Local Municipality, Mpumalanga.

Challenges of Leslie Township

Leslie Township faces significant challenges, including overpopulation and high unemployment rates. Additionally, many residents live in surrounding farm communities, which makes accessing SASSA services difficult and incurs additional transport costs for individuals who are already financially burdened.

ICROP’s Effort

To address this issue, SASSA has initiated the ICROP program, which brings essential social security services directly to the doorsteps of Leslie’s residents. Through this effort, SASSA aims to empower clients and beneficiaries by providing them with valuable education regarding their social grant entitlements.

Education and Assistance

During the ICROP event, community members will be educated on a variety of topics, including changes to the Child Support Grant (Top-up) and alternative methods of payment. SASSA wishes to emphasize that beneficiaries are not obliged to change their payment cards or channels; the choice is entirely up to them.

To ensure comprehensive coverage of services, SASSA has enlisted the assistance of various stakeholders such as financial credit service providers, the Department of Home Affairs (DHA), the Department of Social Development (DSD), the South African Police Services (SAPS), and an array of community structures, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and non-profit organizations (NPOs). These entities will collaborate to provide essential services such as social grant applications, reviews, alternative methods of payment, and enquiries.

ICROP Event

The ICROP event will take place on Wednesday, 30th August 2023, from 9:00 AM at the Difa Community Hall. The media has been invited to attend and witness the collective effort in bringing vital social security services to the people of Leslie Township.

SASSA’s initiative to provide easily accessible services is a crucial step in addressing the challenges faced by economically disadvantaged communities in Mpumalanga. By bringing these services closer to the people who need them most, SASSA demonstrates its commitment to uplift and empower the residents of Leslie Township and its surrounding areas.

For more information about the ICROP and SASSA services, individuals can contact the toll-free number during working hours at 0800 60 10 11, or reach out through WhatsApp at 082 046 8553.
