A remarkable rescue operation in Limpopo Province has reunited a kidnapped businessman with his family. The successful recovery was achieved through the tireless efforts and commitment of a multidisciplinary investigation task team.
Led by Major General Gopz Govender, the Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI – HAWKS), the team comprised members from specialized units, including the Limpopo HAWKS Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit, National Crime Intelligence MDOC, Limpopo Provincial Crime Scene Management, Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), Burgersfort High Way Patrol, and Bravalor Risk Private Investigators.
Their exceptional collaboration and commitment exemplified the effectiveness of cooperation between different law enforcement agencies and organizations.
The victim, Mr. Solly Tayob, a 65-year-old principal dealership owner of Burgersfort Toyota, Hyundai, and Isuzu, was kidnapped on June 2nd, 2023, at around 19:45 from his Hyundai Dealership.
The heavily armed suspects executed the kidnapping with military-like precision, leaving no stone unturned to ensure a foolproof plan.
The team employed a combination of intensive cyber forensic and unconventional investigative methodologies to track down the kidnappers and ensure the successful recovery of Mr. Tayob. Their unwavering commitment to bringing the victim home safely was evident throughout the 27 days of rigorous investigation.
Upon the successful rescue of Mr. Tayob, his family expressed their utmost gratitude for the team’s intervention, success, and endurance.
Following the rescue, two suspects were arrested and appeared in the Practiseer Magistrates’ Court. They are due for a reappearance on July 3rd, 2023, as police investigations continue.
Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya, the National Head of the DPCI, commended the team’s exceptional work and urged Major General Govender to ensure all individuals involved in the kidnapping be brought to justice. His directive further emphasizes the need for continued diligence and cooperation among law enforcement agencies to combat organized crime effectively.
