National Careers Week Addresses Unemployment in Northern Cape Province

The Northern Cape Province of South Africa holds the highest unemployment rate in the country. Almost 40% of its population currently struggles with unemployment. In response, National Careers Week’s “Pathways to Employment” career fairs aim to tackle this issue by providing job seekers with a platform to interact with potential employers and access training and job search resources.

De Aar’s Employment Centre Launch

The upcoming employment fair in De Aar will mark the launch of the Employment Centre. This center will offer job seekers access to tools and resources to register for opportunities and access training resources. The establishment of the center serves as a significant milestone as it will serve as a hub for job seekers to engage with employers and receive expert guidance on job hunting, CV structuring, and interview techniques.

Kuruman’s Employment Services System

The upcoming employment fair in Kuruman offers job seekers the opportunity to register on the Department’s Employment Services System of South Africa (ESSA). They can also access expert guidance on career choices and job searching tips. Employment counselors will facilitate interactions between job seekers and potential employers and other institutions that can offer diverse employment or learning opportunities.

Career Fair Activities

The National Careers Week’s career fairs feature various activities designed to engage and educate attendees. These include motivational talks, job hunting skills sessions, curriculum vitae writing, Z83 application form completion, networking strategies, and interview skills. These events equip job seekers with the necessary tools and insights as they embark on their pathways to employment.

Department of Employment and Labour’s Encouragement

The Department of Employment and Labour encourages all interested parties to attend the employment fairs in De Aar and Kuruman. By providing job seekers with the necessary skills and resources to find employment, the government hopes to address the issue of unemployment in the Northern Cape Province and equip job seekers with the tools they need to succeed.
