The Department of Employment and Labour in South Africa, led by Minister TW Nxesi, recently released the National Labour Migration Policy and draft Employment Services Bill. In response, an information session on Labour Migration and Governance will be held in Denilton, Limpopo Province. The goal is to engage a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from various sectors.
Director of Public Employment Services in Limpopo, Sarah Lepogo, emphasized the significance of the dialogue. It will discuss innovative practices related to labour migration governance, identify progress, gaps, and challenges in labour migration governance, and ensure that the public is well-informed and equipped to handle issues related to labour migration.
The dialogue will also address the review of immigration, refugee, and citizenship legislation, intervention strategies to address foreign nationals in micro-businesses and spaza shops, and the protection and rights of labour migrants.
The event will take place at Yami Nawe Lodge in Dennilton on Thursday, 20 July 2023, from 09h00 to 13h00. This marks a significant milestone in South Africa’s efforts to address concerns related to labour migration and employment services, as stakeholders collaborate to find solutions to the country’s challenges.
The dialogue demonstrates the government’s commitment to creating an environment where all voices are heard, and solutions are formulated collectively. It serves as a platform for fostering open communication and collaboration among diverse stakeholders, which is crucial for developing and implementing effective policies that benefit the entire nation.
The upcoming provincial dialogue is a significant step towards realizing the goals laid out in the National Labour Migration Policy and the Employment Services Amendment Bill. The event’s success depends on the active participation and engagement of all stakeholders involved, as they work together to improve labour migration governance and address the challenges faced by the South African workforce.
