Netball South Africa Announces Final Squad for Netball World Cup

Netball South Africa recently revealed the final squad for the upcoming Netball World Cup, set to take place in Cape Town from July 28 to August 6. The 12-player lineup, along with three reserves, will represent South Africa at the prestigious event held at the Mother City’s International Convention Centre. The squad will be led by captain Bongi Msomi, and prior to the announcement, the team assembled for a four-week training camp under the guidance of coach Norma Plummer.

Netball South Africa President Expresses Confidence in the Team

Netball South Africa President Cecilia Molokwane expressed her confidence in the team and its preparation for the tournament. She acknowledged the historical significance of the event as it marks the first time in sixty years that the Netball World Cup is hosted on African soil. Molokwane emphasized the importance of a strong performance as hosts and urged the team to make history.

The announcement followed the Netball World Cup trophy tour throughout South Africa, where the players engaged with fans and inspired young children. Molokwane highlighted the federation’s support for the coaching staff and emphasized their expectations for a podium finish.

Encouragement for SPAR Proteas to Seize the Moment

Molokwane encouraged the SPAR Proteas to seize the moment and not be mere spectators in their own backyard. She expressed confidence in the selected players and their potential to bring home the coveted netball trophy, asserting that the team has the full support of Netball South Africa.

Final Training Camp and Notable Players

The team will convene for a final training camp in Cape Town on July 14 to fine-tune their preparations under the watchful eye of Coach Plummer. The SPAR Proteas squad includes notable players such as Karla Pretorius, Khanyisa Chawane, and Phumza Maweni, all of whom will be instrumental in South Africa’s quest for victory at the Netball World Cup.

The Netball World Cup promises to be a showcase of talent and determination as South Africa’s netball stars take center stage, aiming to write their names in the history books.
