New Electricity Station in Cape Town to Provide Reliable and Adequate Supply

The construction of a new electricity switching station in Morgen Gronde, Brackenfell, is a significant step towards ensuring reliable and adequate electricity supply to the residents and businesses of Cape Town.

Upgrading the Network

The new 132kV switching station is nearly complete and will be operational by December 2023. This investment will allow the upgrade of currently constrained networks in the surrounding Bellville and Oakdale areas, which is a significant investment in the critical infrastructure of the growing metro.

Significant Investment

The City of Cape Town has launched an R120 billion infrastructure portfolio this year, with a significant portion of R1 billion annually earmarked for electricity infrastructure between now and 2028. This investment will expand and strengthen the grid and medium voltage infrastructure, providing reliable supply and services to the residents and businesses across the metro.

Improved Supply

The construction of the new switching station began in early 2021 and is now near completion. The new station will provide a reliable supply to residents, businesses, and large power users in Brackenfell. In addition, the station’s proximity to the Eskom electricity substation in the area will assist in enabling a reliable supply of electricity to the residents, businesses, and large power users in Brackenfell.

Reporting Damage

In case of any damage to the municipal electrical infrastructure, residents can report it by SMS, email, or by calling the City’s hotline. Anonymous tip-offs are welcomed, and there is a reward of R5,000 for tips that lead to arrests.
