The North West MEC for Human Settlements, Nono Maloyi, proudly announced his department’s unqualified Auditor General report for the financial year 2022-2023. This achievement signifies progress and is attributed to the department’s diligent imposition of stringent systems, ensuring proper processes are adhered to, and resources allocated in accordance with policies and regulations.
During the departmental budget vote presentation earlier this year, MEC Maloyi urged officials to establish effective systems and execute the Post Audit Action Plan (PAAP). This achievement is a step in the right direction towards improving the status quo. Closing all loopholes and adhering to rules and regulations directed by policy is a crucial factor in achieving an unqualified Auditor General report.
Kgomotso Mahlobo, the Head of Department, echoed MEC Maloyi’s enthusiasm and credited the victory to the hardworking Human Settlements team who put in long hours to achieve their goal. The department is committed to making adherence to the Public Finance Management Act and other relevant policies a part of its culture. Mahlobo expressed appreciation for the guidance provided by the Auditor General’s office.
By carefully following the Auditor General South Africa (AGSA)’s recommendations and implementing the PAAP, the department experienced a positive turnaround. The North West Human Settlements department remains dedicated to fulfilling its primary mandate of constructing habitable homes and fostering sustainable human settlements for the province’s residents.
The unqualified Auditor General report serves as a testament to the department’s determination to advance and improve the living conditions for the people of the North West province. MEC Maloyi and Kgomotso Mahlobo offered their gratitude to the entire Human Settlements staff and management for their commitment to financial and performance management.
As the department continues to progress, it serves as an example for other departments and provinces to follow. Effective governance, collaboration, and a focus on continuous improvement are crucial factors in achieving an unqualified Auditor General report.
MEC Nono Maloyi’s celebration of his department’s success highlights the importance of effective governance, collaboration, and a focus on continuous improvement. The North West Human Settlements department serves as an example for others to follow as they strive towards building a better future for the people of their province.
