Planned Power Supply Interruption in V&A Waterfront and Somerset Hospital Precinct for Maintenance Work

The Victoria and Alfred (V&A) Waterfront and Somerset Hospital areas will experience two planned power supply interruptions due to essential maintenance work. These interruptions are necessary for proper maintenance of a major substation in the area, ensuring reliable electricity supply to residents and businesses.

Scheduled Interruptions

The first interruption will occur on Saturday, 10 June 2023, starting from 22:00 until 07:00 the following day. If unfavorable weather conditions persist, an alternative date for the power outage will be on Saturday, 17 June 2023, during the same hours. The second interruption is scheduled for 24 June 2023, and any changes will be communicated accordingly.

Maintenance Work

The Green Point Main Substation will undergo maintenance work during these planned power outages. Councillor Beverley van Reenen, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, apologized for any inconvenience caused and emphasized the importance of treating all electrical installations as live for the full duration of the interruption for safety purposes.

Precautionary Measures

Customers are advised to turn off their appliances to avoid damage caused by power surges when the electricity supply is restored. The maintenance work will occur on two separate dates within a two-week period.

Affected Areas

Customers in parts of the V&A Waterfront and the Green Point precinct will be affected by these planned interruptions. Coordination among affected residents and businesses is essential for dealing with these electricity supply interruptions.

Communication

For more information or inquiries regarding the planned power supply interruption, customers can contact the City’s Call Centre at 0860 103 089. Clear instructions and timely communication can go a long way in mitigating the impact of power supply interruptions on the residents and businesses in the affected areas.

Importance of Maintenance Work

Despite the inconvenience caused, maintenance work is essential for the continued reliability and safety of the power supply in the region. The city’s proactive approach in scheduling and communicating these interruptions demonstrates a commitment to the well-being and prosperity of the V&A Waterfront and Somerset Hospital areas. Customers in these areas can be assured that their electricity supply is being effectively managed and maintained, ensuring a stable and secure energy source for the future.
