Planned Water Supply Maintenance in Welgedacht Estate: What You Need to Know

Welgedacht Estate, a beautiful residential area in the city, will experience a temporary disruption in water supply on August 3, 2023. The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has scheduled essential maintenance work to improve the area’s water infrastructure. The task involves pipe and valve installations, repairs, and replacements and will take place between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.

Minimizing Community Disruption

The City has taken significant steps to ensure that this maintenance work happens at a time least disruptive to the community. Though inconvenience is inevitable, the planned work aims to improve the water supply infrastructure and provide long-term benefits to the residents.

Site Safety and Delays

All sites undergoing water and sanitation repairs and upgrades are classified as construction sites due to safety concerns. Members of the public are barred from accessing these locations. It’s worth noting that maintenance work of this magnitude can sometimes become more intricate than initially anticipated, leading to unforeseen delays.

Post-Maintenance Water Quality

After the water supply resumes, residents may notice discolored or milky water due to trapped air in the pipes. This temporary phenomenon poses no cause for alarm, as the water will clear up if left to stand in a glass.

Staying Updated and Preparation

Residents can stay updated on the progress of the maintenance work and the location of water tankers (if any) by following the City of Cape Town’s official Twitter account, @CityofCTAlerts. In preparation for the planned water supply disruption, residents are advised to store sufficient water in clean, sealed containers to accommodate their needs during the disruption period and keep taps closed to prevent water loss or possible damage when the supply resumes.

City’s Commitment to Reliable Water Supply

In conclusion, the planned maintenance work in Welgedacht Estate reflects the City’s commitment to providing reliable water supply infrastructure to its residents. Although the temporary interruption might cause inconvenience, the long-term benefits will ensure a more efficient and stable water supply service for the community.
