President Cyril Ramaphosa Champions Inclusive Development in Western Cape’s Imbizo

On 19th May, President Cyril Ramaphosa led the District Development Model Presidential Imbizo in the Cape Winelands District Municipality, Western Cape. The Imbizo aimed to promote collaboration and open communication between citizens, community organizations, businesses, and the government for inclusive economic growth.

Cape Winelands District: A Vital Contributor to South Africa’s Economy

The Cape Winelands District, comprising towns such as Stellenbosch, Paarl, Worcester, Tulbagh, Robertson, and Montagu, is a significant contributor to South Africa’s export economy. The region boasts vibrant agricultural, industrial, and tourism landscapes and academic and innovation infrastructure, including the University of Stellenbosch.

President Ramaphosa’s Focus on Paarl and Vlakkeland Project

During his visit, President Ramaphosa focused on the town of Paarl, particularly the Drakenstein Local Municipality. Here, residents engaged with the President and other government representatives during an open-mic session at Dal Josaphat Athletics Stadium. This event followed President Ramaphosa’s inspection of the Vlakkeland catalytic human settlement project nearby.

The Vlakkeland Project: Addressing Housing Needs and Boosting the Economy

The Vlakkeland project addresses the housing needs of the community, with R248 million invested so far in the construction of 432 houses and 323 more. The project provides employment for over 180 local workers, positively impacting the economy.

The Imbizo: A Collaborative Effort to Address Citizens’ Needs

Accompanying President Ramaphosa during the stadium engagement were several ministers, including Cape Winelands District Champion and Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition Ebrahim Patel, Western Cape Premier Alan Winde, and provincial and district leadership. The event marked the sixth instance of President Ramaphosa fulfilling his commitment to interact with communities across all provinces.

The Imbizo Series: A Platform for Inclusive Development

The Presidential Imbizo series, themed “Leave No-One Behind,” aligns with the government’s mission to partner with all sectors of society for sustainable, equitable, and inclusive economic growth. The series provides a platform for the government to address the needs and concerns of communities across the country.

The active involvement of various government departments in the Imbizo events demonstrates a coordinated effort to address the diverse needs of South African citizens.
