Netball World Cup 2023

On 6 August, President Ramaphosa will attend the Closing Ceremony of the Netball World Cup 2023. He will address the event, praising the National Netball Team, The Spar Proteas, for their gallant effort and competitive display. The tournament’s successful hosting reaffirms South Africa’s ability to accommodate world-class events.

Women’s Day National Commemorative Event

President Ramaphosa will deliver the keynote address at the Women’s Day national commemorative event on 9 August in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. The event will commemorate the 67th anniversary of the 1956 women’s march, and President Ramaphosa will encourage equal pay for equal work in football and all women’s sports.

9th District Development Model (DDM) Presidential Imbizo

On 11 August, President Ramaphosa will engage with the community of Chris Hani District in Eastern Cape Province during the 9th District Development Model (DDM) Presidential Imbizo. This ongoing program aims to facilitate an integrated, district-based service delivery approach that accelerates service delivery.

43rd Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government

President Ramaphosa will attend the 43rd Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government in Luanda, Angola, on 17 August, focusing on the theme “Human and Financial capital: The Key Drivers for Sustainable Industrialisation in the SADC Region.”

State Visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping

On 22 August, President Ramaphosa will welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping to South Africa for a State Visit at the Union Buildings. The visit will strengthen bilateral relations with China, and several memorandums of agreement will be signed.

SAPS Biology Section with DNA Analysis

On 31 August, President Ramaphosa will officiate the opening of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Biology Section with DNA Analysis within the Forensic Science Laboratory in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape Province. The expansion will help address the backlog in DNA analysis and assist in the fight against crime.

Other Initiatives

In addition to these events, President Ramaphosa has extended his condolences to the family of former Ivorian President Henri Konan Bédié and concluded a successful working visit to the Russian Federation to discuss South Africa and Russia’s bilateral relationship.
