Deputy Minister Swarts Discusses Achievements in the Department’s Flagship Programme and Collaboration with the Public and Private Sectors
Deputy Minister Swarts has reported that the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure has made significant progress in its flagship programme, the Infrastructure Investment Programme for South Africa (IIPSA). The department has identified 276 infrastructure projects worth R2.3 trillion, which are expected to create 155,000 direct jobs and 350,000 indirect jobs.
In addition to the IIPSA, the department has also accelerated the implementation of the Presidential Infrastructure Coordinating Commission (PICC) projects. These projects include the construction of new schools, hospitals, and housing units.
To further improve service delivery, the department has initiated the Infrastructure Delivery Management System (IDMS), which provides a standardised approach to infrastructure project planning, procurement, and implementation.
Deputy Minister Swarts emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors in driving economic growth and development in South Africa. The department has established the Public-Private Growth Initiative to facilitate partnerships between the government, private sector, and civil society.
The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure has demonstrated a clear vision for the future. The department’s commitment to infrastructure development, skills development, and addressing social issues such as gender-based violence is commendable. With ongoing efforts to build partnerships and improve service delivery, the DPWI is well-positioned to contribute to the economic growth and development of South Africa in the years to come.
