The Western Cape Government (WCG) and City of Cape Town (CoCT) are mourning the death of LEAP officer Siphelo Magwa. The 25-year-old officer was a victim of a fatal shooting in Crossroads during his off-duty hours. He was with his brother and another individual in a vehicle when they were ambushed by three assailants who fired multiple rounds, leaving all three dead at the scene. Magwa had been stationed in the unit at Mitchells Plain and was a committed LEAP officer.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) is investigating the incident, with assistance from the City’s Safety and Security Investigation Unit (SSIU). No arrests have been made yet, but the authorities are working tirelessly to uncover the truth and ensure justice is served.
Reagen Allen, the Provincial Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, expressed his condolences to Magwa’s family and vehemently condemned the criminals’ barbaric actions. He urged anyone with information to come forward and contact law enforcement agencies to aid in the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators responsible for this senseless act of violence.
Alderman JP Smith, City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, shared the grief of Magwa’s family and assured them that the directorate would commit every possible resource to bringing the killers to justice. SSIU investigators were promptly deployed to the scene, gathering information and supporting SAPS in their ongoing mission.
The City encourages anyone with information that could lead to an arrest and conviction to contact SAPS or the City’s 24-hour tip-off line at 0800 110077. It is important to remember the tragic loss of LEAP Officer Magwa, while acknowledging the unyielding dedication of those who continue to serve for the safety and security of our communities. In the face of adversity and violence, their unwavering commitment to protect and serve is a beacon of hope for the people they serve and cannot be overstated.
