Restoring Dignity and Security – Human Settlements Minister Hands Over Homes in Dr. Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Local Municipality

Indigent households in Mpumalanga are receiving newly-constructed homes, thanks to the efforts of Human Settlements Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi and Mr. Speed Mashilo, the MEC of Human Settlements. The housing handover, which took place in the Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Local Municipality, is a part of an initiative to restore dignity and security for the less fortunate, including the elderly.

Providing Sustainable Human Settlements

As a precursor to a community engagement program, more than 100 title deeds will be distributed to the beneficiaries of fully-subsidized government homes, known as Breaking New Ground (BNG) homes. The Department of Human Settlements remains committed to facilitating the creation of sustainable human settlements, working tirelessly to improve the overall quality of household life.

Informal Upgrading Project

The BNG homes are just a fraction of the 500-unit informal upgrading project currently underway at Vukuzakhe B Township. When completed by the end of March 2024, this initiative will provide much-needed housing for hundreds of families. To date, the project has seen the completion of more than 260 housing units, a significant stride in delivering essential accommodations.

Performance Areas Discussion

As an essential part of their activities, Minister Kubayi and the Provincial MECs of Human Settlements, along with Executive Mayors, will convene to discuss crucial performance areas to ensure that the 2023/2024 set targets are achieved. Key items on the agenda include the state of housing delivery, prompt payment of contractors within 30 days, and the allocation of 40% of the budget to designated groups.

Media Invitation

The media is cordially invited to attend two events showcasing the project’s progress. The first activity is a project visit and house handover program scheduled for Friday, 21 July 2023, at 08:00 at the Vukuzakhe B Housing Project in Volksrust Ward 1, Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Local Municipality. Following this, the community engagement and title deeds handover program will occur at 08:35 at the Vukuzakhe A Multipurpose Centre in Volkrust Ward 1.

Collaboration for Lasting Change

This initiative serves as a reminder of the importance of community and government collaboration in addressing the housing needs of the less fortunate, providing them not only with secure accommodations but also with a renewed sense of dignity and hope. Representatives of the media can RSVP to Thokozani Mtshali at 081 381 8449 and will be afforded opportunities for interviews on-site.

In a world that often seems divisive and unequal, the Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Local Municipality stands as a shining example of how empathy and decisive action can empower communities and create lasting change. The successful completion of this project will bring much-needed hope to hundreds of families, reaffirming the belief that, together, we can build a brighter future for all.
