Reyaad Pieterse’s Continues to Stay with Mamelodi Sundowns Despite Rumors

Football Rumors about Reyaad Pieterse, Mamelodi Sundowns’ goalkeeper, have been circulating lately. Many reports speculated that the talented player would leave his current team, but recent statements from his agent have put those rumors to rest.

Pieterse’s Impressive Performance

Pieterse had an excellent performance as the backup to Ronwen Williams, the number one goalkeeper for Mamelodi Sundowns last season. This exceptional performance led to conjecture that the former Kaizer Chiefs star would leave his current team.

Pieterse’s Stance on the Matter

However, his agent, Gary Cassisa, spoke exclusively to The South African, stating that his client is indeed staying with Mamelodi Sundowns. Pieterse’s objective is to challenge the renowned Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams.

The Previous Speculations

The media previously reported that Pieterse, a former SuperSport United goalkeeper, would be let go due to Sundowns’ extensive goalkeeping roster. The team boasts talented players like Williams, Denis Onyango, Ricardo Goss, and Jody February, who were both loaned out to SuperSport and AmaZulu, respectively. Moreover, the DStv Premiership champions have a veteran shot-stopper in Kennedy Mweene, who is nearing retirement and could become a keeper coach within the club.

Cassisa’s Statement

With Goss and February returning from their loan spells, it was speculated that Pieterse might be let go. However, Cassisa’s recent update paints a different picture, saying, “As far as I know, Reyaad is staying at Sundowns. He is ready to push Williams.”

Pieterse’s Potential

Last season, 31-year-old Pieterse played in three competitive matches for Sundowns across all competitions. Given Williams’ extensive game time and national team duties, his body might not withstand the strain for much longer. Pieterse’s presence will provide a strong alternative for the team.

The Pirates’ Deal

Although Pieterse was linked to a move to Pirates during the January transfer window, it appears that this endeavor will not materialize any time soon. Pirates recently announced that Siyabonga Mpontshane and Richard Ofori would stay with the club.

Uncertainty of Retaining Pieterse, Goss, and February

For now, it remains uncertain whether Sundowns will retain Pieterse, Goss, and February, considering the team’s hectic schedule in the upcoming season. However, with Pieterse’s agent debunking the rumors of his departure, fans can expect to see him challenge Williams and build upon his impressive performance so far. The Mamelodi Sundowns have an impressive roster that will undoubtedly make a significant impact in the upcoming season, with Reyaad Pieterse remaining a crucial component of their goalkeeping arsenal.
