The purpose of the event was to raise awareness for elephant conservation.

Branson’s Journey to Zimbabwe

Branson’s choice of transportation to Zimbabwe was a low-cost airline, which sparked curiosity among many. He arrived in the Zambezi Valley on June 6th and joined the month-long walk, covering over 330 kilometers and traversing the majestic Mana Pools and Matusadona national parks, which span over 6.3 million acres of diverse landscapes.

The Zambezi Elephant Fund (ZEF)

The Zambezi Valley has witnessed a sharp decline in elephant populations due to rampant poaching. In response, local safari guide and former game warden, John Stevens, collaborated with the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority to establish the [Zambezi Elephant Fund](https://capetown.today/tragic-death-of-ranger-at-inverdoorn-private-nature-reserve-highlights-dangers-of-working-with-wild-animals) (ZEF). Thanks to the efforts of ZimParks and numerous conservation partners, the elephant population in the lower Zambezi Valley has stabilized.

The Zambezi Valley Walk for Wild Expedition

The Walk for Wild Expedition comprises eight stages involving six different teams. The initial four stages are led by key conservation stakeholders who work closely with the Zambezi Elephant Fund. The remaining stages are overseen by ZEF. Branson’s participation in this vital conservation initiative is appropriate, given his love for Africa and commitment to conservation.

Branson’s Unconventional Approach

Branson is known for his unconventional decisions, as evidenced by his journey to Zimbabwe’s capital city, Harare, aboard a budget airline flight operated by Fastjet. Branson took time to pose for photographs with passengers and airport staff at Harare’s Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, delighting them with his graciousness.

Branson’s Dedication to Wildlife Conservation

Branson’s presence in Zimbabwe and his involvement in the Walk for Wild Expedition demonstrate his unwavering commitment to wildlife conservation. His participation in the event raised awareness about the plight of elephants in the Zambezi Valley and highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts to protect these majestic creatures.

The Zambezi Valley Walk for Wild Expedition embodies a collective endeavor to safeguard the future of elephants in the region. Richard Branson’s participation in this event has undoubtedly amplified its impact. As a passionate conservationist and lover of Africa, Branson’s commitment to this cause is truly commendable and serves as an inspiration to others who share his passion for preserving the world’s natural heritage.
