Road Rage Shooting in Durbanville

On August 30th, a mother narrowly escaped a terrifying road rage incident in Durbanville when a man fired shots at her vehicle, just moments before she was scheduled to pick up her children from school. The incident occurred near Wellington Road and has gained significant attention on social media.

Incident Details

The victim recounts her experience while driving along Wellington Road towards town to collect her children from school. While preparing to turn right at the intersection with Paul Kruger Street, she slowed her gold Fortuner in the right-hand lane. A white Mercedes-Benz driven by a man believed to be in his 30s or 40s nearly collided with her from behind. In response, she flashed her headlights to warn the driver of his dangerous conduct and continued her turn onto Paul Kruger Street.

However, the situation escalated as she proceeded past the first four-way stop and approached a T-junction in Protea Way. The mother noticed the Mercedes-Benz following her closely through her rear-view mirror. Upon making a left turn at the T-junction, she saw the driver pull across the intersection, open his window, and fire shots at her vehicle. Two rounds reportedly struck her car, hitting the backlights and the window spoiler.

Appeal for Information

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are appealing to the public for any potential eyewitnesses or video footage. The mother shared her harrowing experience through a video on social media, hoping to identify and apprehend the dangerous assailant. Local residents are urged to check their security camera footage to assist with the investigation.

Police Investigation

Colonel Theo Fisher, a spokesperson for the Durbanville police, confirmed that the case is being investigated as an instance of malicious damage to property. Authorities believe that the attacker used a gas pistol rather than a genuine firearm during the incident. The case has been assigned the reference number CAS 509/8/2023.

Call to Action

The Durbanville police have requested that anyone with information or who may have witnessed the event reach out to Captain MD Abrahams at the Durbanville police station via phone at 021 970 3831 or 021 970 5600. This alarming event serves as a stark reminder of the potential danger lurking on our roads.
