Road Resurfacing in Capri Village, Masiphumelele, and Ocean View: A Necessary Investment in Urban Mobility

The City of Cape Town is set to undergo extensive road resurfacing works in Capri Village, Masiphumelele, and Ocean View. These projects are a necessary investment in the city’s infrastructure to keep up with the demands of a growing population and thriving businesses.

Targeted Areas and Schedule

Starting from June 1, 2023, and continuing until July 19, 2023, the project aims to repave the roads in Capri Village, Masiphumelele, and Ocean View. Road users are advised to find alternative routes during this period, as the resurfacing works will take place from Monday to Saturday, between 08:00 and 16:30. The targeted areas include Capri Drive in Capri Village, Pokela Road, Sobukwe Road, Ntantiso Road, and Ntantala Road in Masiphumelele, and Alcor Road, Comet Road, Callisto Way, and Carnation Road in Ocean View.

Scope of the Project

The scope of the project involves repairing and realigning damaged kerbs and channels, repairing base and surface patches, and milling and inlaying the existing road surface with a new asphalt layer. Additionally, damaged stormwater kerbs and channels will also be repaired and realigned during this period.

Road User Guidelines

To ensure the safety of road users, motorists are encouraged to adhere to Traffic Accommodation Signage and posted speed limits in these specified areas. Once the resurfacing work is completed, existing road markings will be reinstated, ensuring a smooth transition back to regular traffic patterns.

Long-Term Benefits

Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, has expressed gratitude for the public’s cooperation and patience during this crucial maintenance period. He advises motorists to consider alternative routes as traffic disruptions are expected. However, he emphasizes the long-term benefits of these resurfacing works, describing them as an investment in prolonging the lifespan of these vital roads.

Contact Information

For additional information on the road resurfacing project, citizens can contact the Transport Information Centre toll-free at 0800 65 64 63 or email transport.info@capetown.gov.za. This resource will provide up-to-date information and assistance to those affected by the roadworks, facilitating a well-informed and smoothly functioning community during this period of infrastructure improvement.

The upcoming road resurfacing works in Capri Village, Masiphumelele, and Ocean View represent a necessary step in the ongoing process of maintaining and enhancing the City of Cape Town’s infrastructure. By addressing the wear and tear that inevitably occurs over time, the city is investing in its future and ensuring that its roadways remain safe and efficient for all who traverse them.
