Sister Bronwyn Piedade: A Champion of Personalized Care in Bishop Lavis

Sister Bronwyn Piedade has gained recognition in the Bishop Lavis community for her commitment to delivering patient-centered healthcare. As the facility manager of Bishop Lavis Community Day Centre, she strives to provide every resident with healthcare tailored to their individual needs.

A Passion for Nursing and Community Healthcare

Sister Piedade started her healthcare journey at Groote Schuur Hospital in 1981 as an enrolled nursing assistant. She has worked at various healthcare facilities, including the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, and held leadership roles such as operational nursing manager at the Cape Town Reproductive Health Centre and facility manager at District Six CDC. Growing up in Manenberg, Sister Piedade understands the community’s needs and challenges, which drives her to provide exceptional service.

A Community-Oriented Leader

The Bishop Lavis Health Committee welcomes Sister Piedade’s appointment as a facility manager. The committee chairperson praises her as an attentive listener who prioritizes the community’s needs. Sister Piedade’s open-door policy and community-oriented approach make her an asset to the community.

Collaborating with the Health Committee

Sister Piedade engages with members of the health committee to address residents’ concerns and seeks suggestions for improving services. She encourages clients to share feedback through the compliments and complaints box, making herself accessible and attentive to the community’s voices.

Promoting the Use of Bishop Lavis Wellness Hubs

Sister Piedade oversees the Bishop Lavis Wellness Hubs, which offer stable chronic patients access to medication and wellness screenings. Patients referred by the local clinic can use these hubs to avoid long waits and travel expenses. Sister Piedade promotes the use of these wellness hubs and encourages the community to reach out with any concerns.

Strengthening Partnerships and Empowering the Community

Sister Piedade envisions a safe and empowering environment for all clients at Bishop Lavis Community Day Centre. She recognizes the importance of collaboration and welcomes engagement with the local community to enhance healthcare services.
