South Africa is set to host the BRICS Trade Fair and Summit, organized by the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC) in collaboration with the South African BRICS Business Council. The event will take place at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand from August 19-23, 2023. Minister Ebrahim Patel and his BRIC counterparts will inaugurate the event on August 19, 2023.
The BRICS Trade Fair aims to promote business-to-business interactions and showcase products and services from the BRICS countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The exhibition will foster intra-BRICS trade and investment, thereby strengthening economic ties between these emerging powers.
The event will feature a series of sectoral sessions addressing various topics. These sessions highlight the shared interests and challenges faced by the BRICS countries, as they strive to foster collaboration and mutual growth. Topics include energy cooperation, accelerating infrastructure development through government-business/private partnerships, embracing the digital economy, and pandemic preparedness and response, among others.
The fair will showcase a wide array of products and services from companies and institutions in the BRICS countries and Africa, representing sectors such as agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, automotive, pharmaceuticals, energy, and energy infrastructure. By bringing together businesses from these diverse fields, the event will serve as a melting pot of innovation and collaboration, paving the way for new partnerships and initiatives.
South Africa, as Chair of BRICS, will also host the 15th BRICS Summit at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, from August 22-24, 2023. The summit will focus on fostering strong ties between Africa and the BRICS countries, promoting sustainable development and inclusive growth in the region.
Several notable events will take place before the summit, including Inward Buying and Investment Missions from Brazil, Russia, India, and China, taking place in various South African provinces. The BRICS Trade Ministers will officially open the BRICS Trade Fair, and the BRICS Business Forum will be held at the Sandton Convention Centre on August 22, 2023.
