The South Africa’s Sevens rugby team, the Blitzboks, is having a tough season. Recently, the team finished in a tie for 12th place at the Singapore Sevens tournament in April.
The Blitzboks are set to compete against a formidable group of opponents in Pool C for the World Rugby Sevens Series. They will be playing against third-ranked Fiji, fourth-ranked France, and the USA, ranked at number eight. The matches will be held in Toulouse, France, from 12-14 May.
After their performances in Singapore, the Blitzboks have fallen to seventh place in the standings. In contrast, Pool A has easier matches for the current log-leaders, New Zealand, who will be playing against Uruguay, Kenya, and Canada, teams that are not in the top 10 of the standings. Meanwhile, Pool B features Argentina, Great Britain, Spain, and Germany, and Pool D includes Samoa, Australia, Japan, and Ireland.
The Blitzboks will begin their tournament against hosts France on Friday, 12 May at 14:35 (SA time). They will continue to play against Fiji at 21:03 the same day. Their final pool game at Stade Ernst-Wallon will be against the USA on Saturday, 13 May at 13:49 (SA time). To prepare for the Toulouse Sevens, the Blitzboks have named a revamped squad.
The Blitzboks face a difficult challenge in the Toulouse Sevens, with strong opponents in Pool C. However, they will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing outing in Singapore and finish the season on a high note. The 11th and final round of the season is set to take place in London on 20-21 May.
