Stikland, a dynamic industrial zone in the Cape Town metro area, recently hosted the launch of the Business Retention and Expansion (BR&E) programme, aimed at bolstering the area’s economic strength by supporting the growth of businesses, both big and small.
The BR&E programme, part of the Investment Facilitation Branch (IFB) of the Enterprise and Investment Department, will work in partnership with the Stikland Industrial City Improvement District to help businesses refine their strategies and expedite development. Currently, the Stikland Precinct hosts 471 businesses across a diverse range of industries, including food and beverage, automotive manufacturing, engineering supplies, and storage facilities.
Studies have shown that existing businesses are key to creating urban jobs, and the BR&E programme supports this approach. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the IFB conducted 2,185 engagements with 422 unique businesses, including metal producer Blue Willow Group, recycling firm GeT Alloys, and the Puma clothing brand’s warehouse and office.
Alderman James Vos, the Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, expressed his enthusiasm for the BR&E programme and its potential impact on Cape Town’s economy. He noted that by nurturing local entrepreneurs and businesses, Cape Town can continue to serve as a beacon of economic prosperity.
The BR&E programme is part of the city’s commitment to fostering industrial development and expansion. By focusing on strategic planning, development facilitation, and collaboration with stakeholders, Stikland has become a vital engine of growth for the Cape Town metro area.
