In preparation for the departure of influential captain Steven Kitshoff, the Stormers have signed two loosehead props to fill the void. Lizo Gqoboka and Sti Sithole have been brought in to strengthen the team’s front row options as they move into the post-Kitshoff era.

Gqoboka set to join Stormers from the Bulls

Lizo Gqoboka, a long-time member of the Bulls, will be leaving the Pretoria-based side to join the Stormers. The team has been interested in the Springbok prop for a year and were willing to negotiate a transfer fee to secure his services, despite him still having a year left on his contract with the Bulls.

Stormers re-sign Sithole to further bolster front row

In addition to signing Gqoboka, the Stormers have also re-signed Lions prop Sti Sithole. Both Gqoboka and Sithole will be tasked with filling the enormous boots left by Kitshoff, who led the team to two URC finals and lifted the trophy during its inaugural campaign last year.

Gqoboka sees move as chance to reinvigorate his career

For Gqoboka, the move to the Stormers could offer the opportunity to re-establish himself as a key player in South African rugby. The 33-year-old prop has battled injuries and struggled to secure consistent game time during his final years at the Bulls. Moving to the Stormers could provide him with a fresh start and the chance to prove himself once again.

Stormers take proactive approach to post-Kitshoff era

The Stormers’ proactive approach to the post-Kitshoff era is commendable. Instead of dwelling on the loss of their captain, they have sought out fresh talent and potential to ensure a smooth transition. Gqoboka and Sithole will join their new teammates on July 1, allowing them to participate in pre-season training and foster chemistry with the squad.

Stormers adapt to evolving South African rugby landscape

The Stormers’ acquisition of Gqoboka and Sithole demonstrates their adaptable nature and forward-thinking approach. While Kitshoff’s leadership and presence will be missed, the team is embracing change and looking towards sustained success in the competitive realm of the United Rugby Championship.
