The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Free State province is committed to enhancing community safety and security. Recently, under the banner of Operation Shanela, a series of high-density deployments were launched. Lieutenant-General Baile Motsoenyane, Provincial Commissioner of the police in Free State, and Major-General Arthur Adams, Mangaung Metro District Commissioner, inspected the parade at Parkweg grounds to commence the operation.
During his address to the parade, Lieutenant-General Motsoenyane emphasized the importance of maintaining a proper dress code and operational readiness. He urged the officers to act firmly and exhibit good authority during their patrols. Drawing from his past experiences working in Bloemfontein, Motsoenyane recalled how they always managed to command respect from the community.
The Provincial Commissioner further reminded the officers that the ultimate goal of SAPS is to ensure the safety and security of the community. In this regard, he encouraged the officers to strive for excellence and apply for awards and rewards to recognize their outstanding performance. He also highlighted the importance of adhering to the National Anti-Corruption Strategy and advised the members to “stay away from corruption” and “live within their means.”
Acknowledging the mental and emotional wellbeing of the officers, Lieutenant-General Motsoenyane called upon the Employee Health and Wellness department to work diligently in preventing suicides among the police force.
As part of the high-density deployment, General Motswenyane and General Adams took to the streets and participated in a Vehicle Check Point setup in Paul Kruger Street, Universitas – Parkweg Police Station area. The senior officers also planned to visit activities in the [Bloemfontein Central Business District](https://capetown.today/gauteng-provincial-legislature-empowers-duduza-youth-through-youth-career-expo) and Navalsig Police Station precinct during the operation.
Operation Shanela represents a proactive approach by the South African Police Service to bolster community safety and security in the Free State province. By focusing on high-density deployments and maintaining a strong presence on the streets, SAPS aims to deter criminal activities and provide a secure environment for the citizens of Mangaung Metro and beyond. The operation also serves as a testament to the dedication and commitment of SAPS in fulfilling their mandate and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the communities they serve.
