Bojanala District Hosts Oversight Week

The North West Provincial Legislature will be hosting an oversight week in the Bojanala District from 10th to 13th October 2023. The primary goal of this significant initiative is to reinforce oversight, encourage public participation, and enhance accountability and transparency within the government. During the oversight week, Members of the Provincial Legislature will be interacting with an array of provincial departments, Mayors, Accounting Officers, and members of the Municipal Public Accounts Committees.

The extensive program will include several Portfolio Committees conducting oversight visits to assess the current status of numerous projects in the district and identify the challenges they face. These committees will examine a variety of aspects, from Premier, Finance, Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs, to Health and Social Development, Education, Culture, Arts, Sports and Recreation, Public Works, Roads, Community Safety and Transport Management, and Economic Development, Environment, Tourism, and Agriculture and Rural Development.

The oversight week encompasses a broad range of activities, from the Moretele Incomplete MIG Projects and Bulk Water Supply Project to the Madibeng Livestock Programme. The all-encompassing program reflects the North West Provincial Legislature’s dedication to ensuring transparency, accountability, and effective governance.

Engaging with the Media for Transparency

The North West Provincial Legislature has made an effort to involve the media in this week-long program, packed with activities. Namhla Luhabe, Deputy Manager – Communications at the North West Provincial Legislature, has extended an open invitation to media personnel to attend. This initiative showcases a commitment to openness and inclusivity, enabling the media to provide accurate information and report on the events taking place during the oversight week.

The oversight week will kick off on Tuesday, 10th October, with the Committee on Premier, Finance, Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs visiting Moretele LM. They will evaluate the Incomplete MIG Projects and Bulk Water Supply Project, followed by the construction of a new Reservoir & 32km pipeline in Moretele far North Klipdriff Waste Water Treatment Plant & Pipeline.

At the same time, the Committee on Health and Social Development will visit Witrand Hospital in Klerksdorp, Tladistad Clinic in Potwaneng, and Reamogetse CYCC in Sonop. The SC on Provincial Public Accounts will assess the Ward 5 Water supply in Moretele LM, and the Committee on Education, Culture, Arts, Sports and Recreation will visit Ikaneng High School in Sutelong, Ramaifala Primary School in Temba, and Ditsong Tswaing Crager Heritage Site in Soshanguve.

Concluding the Oversight Week with Last Visits

In the subsequent days, other committees will undertake multiple oversight visits to various projects throughout the Bojanala District, leading up to the last day of the oversight week on Friday, 13th October. On this day, the Committee on Education, Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation will visit Paardekraal Primary School in Rustenburg, Paardekraal Monument in Rustenburg, and Kgetleng Primary School in Swartruggens.
