On July 23rd, 2023, Limpopo’s Provincial Commissioner praised the efficient arrest of two suspects connected to a murder and armed robbery in the Hlogotlou policing area outside Sekhukhune. This arrest happened thanks to a collaborative sting operation involving the Sekhukhune Tracking Team, Hlogotlou Detectives, and MEP Security Company.
On the preceding Saturday night, four men found themselves targeted by four masked assailants while walking home. With their lives threatened, the victims handed over their cellphones to the armed robbers. Tragically, one of the victims, Kgotlelelo Magolego, aged 31, suffered fatal injuries during the encounter.
Upon receiving news of the incident, police officers hurried to the scene, where paramedics pronounced Magolego dead. As they commenced their investigation, authorities received a valuable tip-off that led to the swift arrest of the suspects.
During the arrest, police officers confiscated two firearms and ammunition believed to have been used in the crime. The rapid response and efficient teamwork of the involved authorities were crucial in apprehending the criminals and securing the evidence.
Limpopo’s Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, lauded the dedication and determination of the arresting team. She stressed the importance of collaboration between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and security companies in combating crime and delivering justice.
The two suspects, both aged 26, are set to appear before the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on Monday, July 24th, 2023. They face charges of murder, armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms, and ammunition.
As two of the four suspects remain at large, authorities encourage anyone with information that may lead to their apprehension to come forward. Individuals can contact Colonel Mahlathini Ngele at 082 573 3645 or the Crime Stop number at 0860 10111. They can also reach out to the nearest police station or use the MySAPSApp.
