From Humble Beginnings to Victory

Dijana comes from a humble background and has worked as a security guard at North West University’s Mahikeng campus for nine years. Despite winning a staggering prize sum of R1.7 million after his recent Comrades Marathon victory, Dijana remains committed to his job. He shared that his interactions with students have evolved since his initial win, and even the professors at the university now recognize him.

Ambitions Beyond Comrades Marathon

Dijana’s passion for running extends beyond the Comrades Marathon. He aims to achieve greater feats by clinching a World Championship and Olympic medal. He aspires to join the ranks of renowned athletes such as three-time Olympian Mokoka and Melikhaya Frans. To achieve this, Dijana has strategically planned his training regimen. He intends to resume his arduous preparations around July 12 after a month of rest. Additionally, he is considering participating in either the Cape Town Marathon in October or the Soweto Marathon in November.

Confidence in His Abilities

Dijana is confident in his abilities to make the marathon team for the World Athletics Championships. His confidence stems from his impressive performance in the Nedbank Runified 50km and the Comrades Marathon. He eagerly anticipates the call confirming his entry. However, he acknowledges that participating in the Paris Games would likely preclude him from competing in the Comrades Marathon scheduled for August 11, 2024.
