The Growthpoint SA National Squash Championships Returns to Cape Town

The Growthpoint SA National Squash Championships has returned to Cape Town for the third year in a row. The tournament features eight elite male and female players battling for top honors on a breathtaking all-glass court at the V&A Waterfront.

A New Addition: Junior Squash Talent Showcase

This year, a parallel event has been added to the tournament to highlight the nation’s burgeoning junior squash talent. From August 17 to August 20, players in the U15, U17, and U19 age categories will compete for recognition and accolades.

Reigning Champions and Top Seeds

Dewald van Niekerk, the reigning senior men’s champion, is aiming for a hat-trick of Growthpoint squash titles. On the women’s side, Hayley Ward from Eastern Province is the top seed. She is joined by Alexa Pienaar and two-time former champion Milnay Louw (2017 and 2019) in their quest to claim this year’s coveted title.

City’s Support and Commitment to Squash

Alderman JP Smith, City’s mayoral committee member for safety and security, warmly welcomes the championship’s return and highlights the excitement and extraordinary talent on display at one of Cape Town’s most iconic locations. The City’s support of the tournament aims to elevate the status of squash in South Africa, provide a platform for players to showcase their abilities, and ensure the sport continues to flourish on an international level.

Fostering the Growth of Squash

Squash SA is committed to fostering the growth of the sport and is offering local children a rare opportunity to visit the glass court and participate in interactive sessions with esteemed South African professional squash player, Siyoli Waters. These sessions aim to instill the fundamental principles of the game while inspiring the next generation of squash enthusiasts.

Free Entry and Live Streaming

Entry to the event is free, although seating is limited. Alternatively, squash enthusiasts can catch the excitement via live streaming on the official Squash South Africa Facebook page.

A Celebration of Talent and Passion

The Growthpoint SA National Squash Championships is not only a celebration of the sport but also a testament to the dedication and passion of the athletes and organizers. By providing opportunities for both seasoned professionals and up-and-coming junior players, the event underscores the importance of nurturing talent and fostering a love for the sport in the country. As the tournament unfolds, spectators and participants alike will revel in the display of exceptional skill, determination, and heart put forth by these extraordinary athletes.
