The Human Settlements Roadshow: Bringing Services and Building Trust in Cape Town’s Neighborhoods

The Human Settlements Roadshow represents the City of Cape Town’s latest initiative to address the pressing need for affordable housing and to build trust with communities across the metro area. By bringing essential services and engaging directly with residents, the roadshow is making a tangible difference to the lives of Capetonians.

Engaging with Communities

Embarking on its journey in early September, the roadshow has already visited various areas throughout the city, such as Kensington, Kuils River, Langa, Morningstar, and Westlake. The initiative has been met with enthusiasm from residents, transforming the way they interact with the City’s Human Settlements staff members.

Councillor Carl Pophaim, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, highlighted the importance of connecting with residents and providing targeted assistance. “Working directly with our residents and earning their trust is the type of delivery I take very seriously,” he noted.

Services Available

The Human Settlements Roadshow is equipped to assist residents with a variety of enquiries, including title deeds (new and historical), C3 notifications, specific project information, Housing Needs Register applications, tenancy management, affordable housing enquiries, and informal settlement queries.

Upcoming Events

In the coming weeks, the roadshow will visit various neighborhoods, including Browns Farm, Lotus River, and Milnerton. See the schedule below for more information:

Addressing Cape Town’s Housing Crisis

The Human Settlements Roadshow’s ambitious schedule reflects the urgency of addressing Cape Town’s housing crisis. As Councillor Pophaim emphasized, the situation is not unique to the city but rather a challenge faced by municipalities throughout South Africa.

Remote Assistance Available

For those unable to visit the roadshow in person or who require further information, the City of Cape Town has made provisions for remote assistance. Residents can visit a City Housing Office, contact the City’s Call Centre at 021 444 0333, send a WhatsApp message to 064 299 9927, or visit the city’s official website at www.capetown.gov.za.

As the Human Settlements Roadshow continues to traverse the diverse landscapes of Cape Town, it exemplifies the power of direct engagement and innovative approaches to address pressing issues. Through this initiative, the City of Cape Town is not only fostering trust with its residents but also working diligently to provide much-needed housing solutions for its vibrant communities.
