The Jive Cape Town Funny Festival: A Celebration of Comedy and the Power of Laughter

For 24 years, the Jive Cape Town Funny Festival has been a beacon of laughter and joy in South Africa’s Mother City. As a premier event in Cape Town, it showcases the best in local and international comedy acts. This year, the festival returns to the Baxter Theatre from tomorrow until July 2nd, promising an unforgettable experience for comedy enthusiasts.

Nurturing Emerging Talent

One of the cornerstones of the Funny Festival’s success is its dedication to nurturing emerging talent. This year, the Funny Championship held a competition among 24 budding comedians, who battled through four heats to produce four winners. Wildcard entrant and young screenwriter-director Mzonke Maloney also joined the finalists, displaying his passion for thought-provoking storytelling.

Diverse Performances

The Cape Town Funny Festival’s lineup features a diverse array of captivating performances. Esteemed mentalist Larry Soffer, known as Africa’s best, will grace the stage alongside musical virtuoso Emo Adams. Making their festival debut is the renowned street-performing duo from San Francisco, Daredevil Chicken. The resident comic and master of ceremonies, Alan Committie, will introduce local talents such as Dalin Oliver, Schalk Bezuidenhout, Riaad Moosa, and the legendary Marc Lottering.

Support from the City

The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, highlighting the festival’s role in fostering young talent and ensuring the legacy of this premier event.

Philanthropic Spirit

In addition to spreading laughter and happiness, the Cape Town Funny Festival embraces a philanthropic spirit by supporting Operation Smile. This organisation dedicates itself to providing safe treatment and surgery to children with cleft lip and cleft palate.

Important Reminders

As excitement for the Jive Cape Town Funny Festival builds, it is important to purchase tickets only from authorised event organisers. Comedy lovers and those seeking a dose of hilarity should not miss this opportunity to indulge in an extraordinary showcase of talent and wit. As the laughter resonates from the Baxter Theatre, the spirit of the Funny Festival will continue to enchant Cape Town and beyond.
