The Journey of Annelisa Weiland: An Illustrious Career Spanning Over Five Decades

Annelisa Weiland, a seasoned actress, has been captivating audiences with her performances for over fifty years. Her passion for the arts was evident from early on, and she has explored every facet of the theater, from film to television and stage productions.

The Foundation at the University of Cape Town

There, she honed her skills in a variety of theatrical productions, showcasing her versatility and talent in diverse roles that spanned genres and periods. She performed in classics such as Hamlet and The Crucible, and contemporary shows like On the Lake and Ma!.

Success in Film and Television

Annelisa’s foray into film brought her success, with appearances in Meerkat Maantuig (2017) and Susters (2018). She showcased her ability to connect with audiences and convey humanity through the medium of cinema. Her television career includes roles in popular South African shows such as 7de Laan, Suidooster, and Lui Maar Op, Belinda, further cementing her status as a beloved and accomplished actress.

Iconic Role as “Hilde de Kock”

Perhaps Annelisa’s most iconic role was as “Hilde de Kock” in the South African soap opera 7de Laan. For 19 years, she charmed viewers with Hilda’s quirky spirit, elaborate cake ideas, adventurous food combinations, and her obsession with scarves. Her skillful take on Japanese Ikebana also won her many admirers. Annelisa’s dedication to her craft earned her a Tempo Award for Soap Actress of the Year in 2014.

Moving On and Continuation of Career

In 2019, Annelisa announced that she would be leaving 7de Laan, leaving fans heartbroken as they bid farewell to their beloved “Hilda.” However, Annelisa’s departure from the soap opera did not mark the end of her illustrious career. Instead, she went on to join the cast of Suidooster from 2019 to 2020, proving her ability to captivate audiences in new and exciting roles.

Currently, Annelisa stars in the KykNet comedy Lui Maar Op, Belinda, which began its third season in April this year. The show revolves around a group of displaced characters who find themselves working at a hardware store in George, providing plenty of opportunities for laughter and tears.

Annelisa Weiland has dedicated her life to her craft, and her extensive body of work shows her versatility as an actress and her commitment to the art of storytelling. While fans may still miss “Hilda,” they can rest assured that Annelisa Weiland will continue to enchant them with her dynamic performances for years to come.
