The Kraal at Joostenberg Wine Estate: Rustic Farm-to-Table Dining in a Scenic Setting

Nestled in the scenic Joostenberg Wine Estate, The Kraal offers a unique dining experience that celebrates the arrival of each new season. From immersive farm walks to alfresco lunches, The Kraal celebrates life’s simple pleasures, much like farming folk do.

Experience Spring Farm Walks and Wine

To make the most of your visit, take a leisurely walk through the historic werf and gardens, along the farm road, and into the vineyards. You will also learn about organic winemaking, flower cultivation, and renosterveld rejuvenation. You can enjoy wine tastings and snacks as you stroll through the picturesque landscapes. To complete your experience, add a two-course farm-to-table lunch featuring the freshest spring produce at The Kraal. You will dine alfresco at long wooden tables under umbrellas and the dappled shade of fruit and olive trees, with views of the 30-hectare farm in all directions.

Simple and Authentic Atmosphere of the Kraal at Joostenberg Wine Estate

The Kraal’s ambiance is simple, almost Mediterranean, with old whitewashed stone walls, long wooden tables, and fruit and olive trees. The staff is friendly, and the weekly menu changes are based entirely on seasonal, local, and organic produce. The chef, Garth Bedford, prepares delicious and filling meals that reflect the region’s authentic flavors. Wines are suggested to pair with dishes on the week’s menu.

Good to Know

  • Booking is essential, and the event is limited to 20 participants, so it’s best to book early.
  • Children are welcome, but there is no separate children’s menu.
  • The Kraal is open Friday to Sunday from 12 pm to 2.30 pm.

Raise a Glass at the Kraal at Joostenberg Wine Estate

Before or after your meal, you can pop into the adjacent Joostenberg winery to enjoy a chilled tasting of the Joostenberg range. You can also pick up a few bottles to take home. The winery produces its bubbly NIU Organic Chenin Blanc MCC with the help of Spanish cava producers.

Whether you’re seeking a no-frills, authentic dining experience or an immersive farm walk, The Kraal at Joostenberg Wine Estate is the perfect place to enjoy fresh air, fine wine, and delicious food.
