The Netball World Cup Trophy Tour Culminates in Cape Town

Cape Town, a city known for its rich culture and vibrant history, is set to receive the Netball World Cup trophy on July 7, 2023. The Western Cape Netball World Cup trophy tour will conclude with Anroux Marais, the Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, officially handing over the trophy to the City of Cape Town.

The Trophy Tour

The trophy tour began on July 3, 2023, when Minister Marais received the trophy from the Eastern Cape Government at the iconic Bloukrans Bridge. The trophy then traveled across the province, making appearances in various communities and uniting them in anticipation for the upcoming tournament.

The Netball World Cup

The Netball World Cup will begin on July 28, 2023, and is the first time the tournament is being hosted on African soil. The tournament is expected to boost the province’s economy, with an influx of visitors drawn to the event. Cape Town will be the sole venue for all matches, with the CTICC serving as the hub of the action.

The Handover Ceremony

The handover ceremony will take place at the Public Concourse in Cape Town’s Central Business District. Entertainment activities will kick off at 15h00, followed by the official handover at 16h00. Media personnel are invited to attend, and photo and interview opportunities will be available.

The Exhibition

The City of Cape Town will display the trophy in various venues throughout the city in the lead-up to the Netball World Cup. This exhibition will further build anticipation and excitement among residents and visitors, showcasing the city’s commitment to the event.
