The Oceans Mall: A New Chapter in KwaZulu-Natal’s Development

The Oceans Mall, located in Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, has been making waves in the retail industry since its opening in November 2022. The mall, developed by businessman Vivian Reddy, has been called the “Dubai in Durban” and has been described as a “game changer” for KwaZulu-Natal.

A New Destination for International Brands

The R1.3-billion shopping mall investment has attracted over 12 international brands, such as Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Versace, and Burberry. In addition, the mall’s luxurious design and stunning architecture make it a unique destination for shoppers, tourists, and locals alike.

The Oceans Mall’s impact on the local economy has been significant, creating 1,300 permanent jobs in addition to 3,500 jobs during its construction. In addition, the mall’s location overlooking the Indian Ocean provides a breathtaking backdrop for shoppers and visitors.

A Milestone for Economic Development

The Oceans Mall is part of an R4.3-billion mixed-use development comprising three towers, a hotel, and luxury residential apartments. The mall’s long-term plan is to have similar products in far-flung rural districts in KwaZulu-Natal, which could significantly impact the region’s economic growth.

The development is 100% black-owned, with the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) as a co-shareholder. It is also unique because it has a 65% black tenant base, showcasing the mall’s commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion.

The People Behind the Oceans Mall

Vivian Reddy, the co-developer of the Oceans Mall, is no stranger to the South African business scene. He is a prominent businessman and philanthropist in various construction, energy, and real estate industries.

Reddy’s vision for the Oceans Mall was to create a world-class shopping destination that would not only provide luxury retail experiences but also create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the region. The mall’s opening was attended by various politicians, celebrities, and dignitaries, showing the mall’s significance in the country’s economic and cultural landscape.

In conclusion, the Oceans Mall is more than just a shopping destination. It symbolizes a new chapter in KwaZulu-Natal’s economic development, showcasing the region’s potential for growth and prosperity.
