The Rebirth of Senzo Meyiwa’s Murder Trial: New Beginnings and the Quest for Justice

The murder of Senzo Meyiwa, former Bafana Bafana captain, shocked South Africa and the world of football. Meyiwa was killed on 26 October 2014 at the home of his then-girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, in Vosloorus, Gauteng in what was alleged to be a botched robbery. The murder trial of the five accused men has restarted from scratch under the watchful eye of Presiding Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng. The accused are Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli. They now have the right to apply for bail, but their applications must be submitted before a different judge and in a different court. It is worth noting that Bongani Ntanzi’s attempt at securing bail was denied.
