The Red Bull Box Cart Race will be held this weekend

If there’s one thing everyone knows about the Mother City, it’s that Cape Town’s calendar is packed year-round. Whether it’s local, international, annual or first-time, the city hosts a variety of events and this weekend is no exception.

It starts with the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Elite 16 final, which takes place in the heart of Grand Parade, and ends with the Red Bull Box Cart Race.

This Sunday, the iconic houses of Bokaap won’t be the only colorful elements in town. The world famous and unpredictable Box Cart Race will see the most daring, reckless and crazy race cars racing down the slopes of Bokaap.

60 teams of uniquely designed, non-motorized box carts – 31 of which represent the Mother City – will put their driving skills to the test to go faster than the rest and win this year’s title.

The race will be hosted by award-winning content producer Nadia Jaftha and comedian Dalin Oliver, with commentary by airshow commentator Brian Emminis.

The race will be judged by Red Bull MotorSport athlete Giniel de Villiers, as well as Friends of Red Bull Skarra Ntubeni, Courtnaé Paul and rapper Nasty C. They’ll pay attention to the total package: speed, whimsy and creative elements.

Come for the ride and stay for the vibe. In addition to the second-hand adrenaline rushes, spectators can also expect a fan park with food trucks, drink stations, seating and plenty of entertainment.

Since the first event 22 years ago in Brussels, more than 120 races have taken place in over 52 countries. Since then, more than four million spectators from all parts of the world have gathered to enjoy the festivities.

Residents and motorists are advised that Yusuf Drive and Wale Street will be temporarily closed in advance of the event from Friday, November 4 through Sunday, November 6.
