Collectively, they were the linchpin of the famed Lions side of the mid-1990s, a team that has left an indelible mark in rugby history.

Strydom finally earned his place in rugby history on July 3, 1993, when he debuted in a test match for the Springboks against France at Ellis Park. Although the team suffered a defeat, this game marked the commencement of a new chapter in Strydom’s illustrious career. He played in every test match during the Springboks’ tour to Australia and Argentina that year.
