The United Rugby Championship Grand Final: A Guide to Spectator Logistics in Cape Town

The United Rugby Championship Grand Final is one of the most highly-anticipated events in the rugby calendar. This year’s final will see the DHL Stormers face Munster in a thrilling match at the DHL Stadium, with a sold-out crowd of 55,000 expected to attend. As the City of Cape Town prepares to host this event, extensive preparations have been made to ensure that the event runs smoothly.

Park and Ride Services

To accommodate the influx of fans, the City of Cape Town has expanded its park and ride options. Spectators are encouraged to utilize park and ride services to alleviate traffic congestion and respect residents by avoiding illegal parking, which will result in fines or towing.

Parking Options

Numerous parking options have been provided for spectators, including free parking at the Civic Centre, paid parking at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), and secure parking at Century City. E-hailing services are advised to drop off and pick up passengers in the CBD to avoid traffic congestion near the stadium.

Road Closures

To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all attendees, several road closures will be in place on game day, including Sonnenberg Road, Vlei Road, Stephan Way, and Fort Wynyard Street. It is important that spectators plan their route in advance and allow additional time for travel.

Displaying DHL Stormers Pride

Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis encourages Capetonians to display their DHL Stormers pride, donning blue and white throughout the week to create an electrifying atmosphere at the stadium and within communities. He emphasizes the importance of early arrival at the stadium to ensure a smooth experience.

The Vodacom URC Grand Final kicks off at 18:30, with gates at the DHL Stadium opening at 15:30. With the vibrant city of Cape Town in full support, the stage is set for an unforgettable showdown between the DHL Stormers and Munster. As a spectator, make sure to plan ahead and take advantage of the transportation options provided by the City of Cape Town. Don’t forget to wear blue and white to show your support for the DHL Stormers!
