Embarking on a New Musical Journey

Century City, the beating heart of cultural amalgamation, is ready to add another jewel to its crown – Sunset Concerts at Ratanga Park, scheduled to begin on 25th February. This captivating initiative, set against the backdrop of the city’s stunning natural beauty, promises to celebrate the city’s lively music scene. The Sunset Concerts will paint the city in vibrant musical hues once a month, bringing to the stage a heady mix of well-established and rising artists.

The maiden concert promises an extraordinary lineup of performances. It will be headlined by Die Heuwels Fantasties, the acclaimed Afrikaans alternative band and winner of the Sama-Award. And lending support will be the respected Cape Flats rapper, Jitsvinger. The Century City Arts Foundation and the Cape Town Music Academy (CTMA) have joined hands to make this dream a reality, their harmonious partnership fueling the creation and execution of the Sunset Concerts at Ratanga Park.

Ratanga Park: The Perfect Venue for a Musical Feast

Ratanga Park, previously referred to as Ratanga Junction, provides the perfect backdrop for this grand outdoor spectacle. Encircled by the Century City canals and boasting vast expanses of green open spaces, this park is a natural choice for a large scale musical event. The park’s aesthetic appeal is further enhanced by the majestic Table Mountain in the background, offering a picturesque setting for these musical celebrations.

The concert experience is set to be an indulgent affair, reminiscent of a grand picnic-style music fest. It stands as an appealing choice for friends and families seeking a tranquil summer evening event, where they can relax and enjoy contemporary melodies as the sun sets. Nico McLachlan from CTMA states, “The scenic park… is the perfect setting… where families and friends can picnic and listen to contemporary music by top bands as the sun sets.”

Stellar Performances to Look Forward To

Die Heuwels Fantasties, the headlining act of the inaugural concert, is renowned for having left an indelible mark on Cape Town’s music scene. Their high-energy performances and popular radio hits have made them one of the most in-demand bands in South Africa over the past decade.

Joining them on stage is the multiple-award-winning Cape Flats rapper and composer, Jitsvinger. Attendees can look forward to being captivated by his imaginative lyrics and rich Afrikaans music, deeply rooted in boom-rap. Jitsvinger will be joined by his long-standing creative partner, DJ Willy, who will spice up the performance with his expert mixing and scratching.

An Enthralling Evening of Culture and Melody

The gates to this veritable feast of culture and melody will open at 4 pm, an hour before the concert begins. The tickets are priced at R200 for adults. However, children under the age of 12 can attend the event free of charge. Attendees are welcome to bring their picnic baskets, but carrying alcoholic beverages and glass bottles is not permitted. Instead, there will be stalls offering a variety of wines, beers, and a wide selection of delectable food from local trucks.

To ensure all attendees fully immerse themselves in the concert experience, the organizers have requested the audience not to bring tables, chairs, and gazebos that could potentially obstruct others’ views. For the convenience of attendees, the organizers have arranged for special underground parking, accessible via Conference Lane in Century City, at a nominal fee of R10 for the concert duration. The recommended parking structures are P2 and P4.
