In an effort to celebrate Women’s Month, the Water and Sanitation Deputy Ministers, Mr. David Mahlobo and Ms. Judith Tshabalala, will lead a community engagement in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday, 29 August 2023. The event will focus on Women in Water Resource Management, outlining measures to foster women’s economic participation, and creating job opportunities in the water sector.
The public engagement, in collaboration with Msinsi Holdings, a subsidiary of the newly established Umngeni-uThukela Water, will engage the Thokozani community and nearby areas on crucial matters concerning water conservation. The event will discuss various interventions designed to address the pressing issue of water scarcity in the region.
Scheduled as a two-part event, the first half, titled “Community Engagement and Corporate Social Investment Handover,” will take place at Albert Falls Hall from 11:00 to 13:00. The second half, “Women in the Water Resources Management Programme,” will be held at Bon Accorde Resort, Albert Falls, from 14:00 to 17:00.
The event will also feature a ceremony wherein a Canoe Trailer will be handed over to the Thulani Mbanjwa Academy. Women co-operatives who have already benefited from Msinsi Holdings’ water resource management program are also expected to attend the gathering.
The involvement of women in water resource management not only paves the way for a more inclusive and diverse workforce but also contributes to the development of innovative solutions to address water scarcity.
The event highlights the government’s commitment to fostering women’s economic participation and job creation in the water sector. Through projects like these, communities can become aware of the critical role they play in preserving water resources and promoting sustainable living.
By engaging with the Thokozani community, the Deputy Ministers and Msinsi Holdings aim to encourage local participation in water conservation efforts, ultimately benefiting both the environment and the community’s economy.
The Women in Water Resource Management event serves as a platform for raising awareness and inspiring action in water conservation and management. The initiative is likely to have a far-reaching impact on community development and environmental preservation.
The media has been invited to attend and cover the event, allowing for broader awareness and continued conversation on the pressing issue of water conservation and the inclusion of women in the water sector. Transportation facilities will be provided, departing from the Playhouse at 08:00 am and the Pietermaritzburg Council House at 09:30 am.
