President Ramaphosa Commends the Arrests of Police Murder Suspects
His Excellency Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa, the President of the Republic of South Africa, officiated the proceedings, expressing gratitude for the unwavering commitment of the men and women in blue. President Ramaphosa commended the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations for their diligent work, which has led to the arrest of 76 suspected police murderers during the past year. He stressed the need for an end to attacks on police officers and highlighted the importance of justice for the families of fallen heroes and heroines.
Engraving Names on the National Memorial Wall
During the Annual National Commemoration Day, the names of 34 police officers were engraved onto the National Memorial Wall at the Union Buildings, a tangible symbol of the nation’s appreciation for their service. President Ramaphosa, accompanied by the Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele, National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, General Fannie Masemola, and the families of the fallen heroes and heroines, laid wreaths in their honor.

The diligent investigative work has resulted in nine convicted police killers receiving life sentences, totaling 158 years of imprisonment. The President’s remarks serve to underscore the government’s resolve in combating the scourge of violence against law enforcement officers.

SAPS provides ongoing psychological and spiritual support to the bereaved families, friends, and colleagues through its Employee Health and Wellness Component (EHW). This initiative underscores the commitment to the wellbeing of both current and former members and their loved ones.

President Ramaphosa addressed a cohort of police trainees at the SAPS Tshwane Academy, instilling in them the importance of their future roles in safeguarding the nation.
