Cape Town to Host 2023 Event Extravaganza

Cape Town is gearing up to end 2023 on a high note, with a series of events that will highlight the best of art, culture, and sports. From September to December 2023, the city will host a variety of events that promise to cater to every interest.

City’s Support for Events

The City of Cape Town has provided support for at least 62 events, including financial aid, venue waivers, and municipal services. This is in addition to the 81 events that have already received support since the beginning of the year. The city’s efforts have had a positive impact on job creation, economic growth, and social cohesion, with seven major events alone generating over R5 billion in revenue.

FAME Week Africa

FAME Week Africa kicks off the event extravaganza from 3-9 September 2023. It brings together industry professionals and creatives in the Film, Art, Media, and Entertainment sectors for a week-long celebration. The event features film screenings, live entertainment, and networking sessions.

September Events

Motorsports fans are in for a treat in September, with two exciting events – the Extreme Festival National Championship (8-9 September) and DRIFTCity (24 September). Literary enthusiasts can attend the Open Book Festival (8-10 September), which features discussions and talks with some of South Africa’s top authors.

WOMAD Festival

The World of Music, Arts, and Dance (WOMAD) festival will be held at the V&A Waterfront from 22-25 September. This prestigious event features artists from around the world, showcasing different cultures and traditions.

October Events

In October, the city will host several sports events, including the Kapstadt Cup (4-8 October), the FIA World Rallycross series (7-8 October), and the finals of SAFA Cape Town’s Coke Cup (14 October). The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, which aims to become an Abbott World Marathon Major, will take place on 14 and 15 October.

November Events

The Opera world will be in Cape Town from 30 October to 5 November for Operalia, the World Opera Competition at the Artscape Theatre.

December Events

The Cape Town SVNS festival, featuring the world’s top men’s and women’s rugby sevens teams, will take place at the DHL Stadium on 9 and 10 December.
