Cape Town Opera’s Tosca

From September 12-17, the Cape Town Opera presents Tosca, a tragic opera that interweaves themes of jealousy, passion, and political turmoil. Directed by Magdalene Minaar, the performance features an outstanding ensemble including Cape Town Opera soloists, Judith Neilson young artists, guest soloists, the Cape Town Opera Chorus, and the Children’s Chorus, all accompanied by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra under Björn Bantock.

Manyano ‘The Spirit of Ubuntu’

As part of the Artscape Heritage Festival, Elvis Sibeko Studios presents Manyano ‘The Spirit of Ubuntu,’ a vibrant Afro-epic music and dance production that showcases a variety of South African cultural dances and a unique Manyano dance celebration featuring all the different groups united in harmony. The performance is directed and choreographed by the internationally acclaimed Elvis Sibeko.

Zinzi Nogavu Live ‘Tribute to Madosini’

From September 21-23, Zinzi Nogavu pays homage to the legendary South African musician, Mamu Madosini, with a soulful concert that blends traditional and western instruments. Joined by special guest artist and UCT alumnus Professor Dizu Plaatjies, the performance promises to celebrate the enchanting allure of Xhosa melodies and Madosini’s lasting legacy.

Camissa Heritage Tour

From September 28-30, the Camissa Heritage Tour offers patrons a glimpse into South Africa’s rich history, including the country’s colonial past, indigenous communities, and the history of slavery in the Cape. Through artistic and educational performances, the production aims to engage audiences and foster an appreciation for the narratives of the San and Khoi, as well as the influence of The Netherlands on South Africa’s history.

Not Just Another Cinderella Story

On September 30, the First Community Resource Centre Arts and Culture presents “Not Just Another Cinderella Story,” a fundraiser production that sheds light on the social issues faced by communities on the Cape Flats. Using familiar characters like Cinderella, Jack and Jill, and Humpty Dumpty, the performance highlights gender-based violence, poverty, and the plight of orphans and vulnerable children.

True Tales of Sex, Success, and Sex in the City

Also on September 30, Candace Bushnell, the iconic author behind “Sex and the City,” will take the stage in her acclaimed one-woman show, “True Tales of Sex, Success, and Sex in the City.” Brought to Cape Town by Showtime Management, the performance offers a candid account of Bushnell’s life, her journey in New York City, and the creation of her most famous work, all while donning her signature Manolos.

The Artscape Theatre Centre’s diverse and captivating lineup of performances continues to enchant audiences and solidify its place as a cornerstone of Cape Town’s thriving arts scene.
