Food Fanatics & The Homestead Venue

Are you looking for an intimate and magical dining experience in Cape Town? Look no further than The Homestead Kitchen, a charming restaurant located on a nondescript street in Plumstead.

A Magical Atmosphere

As you enter the restaurant’s enchanting garden, you’ll feel the magic begin. The Homestead Kitchen is the brainchild of OG foodie Elaine Rosseau, who has lovingly restored the building to create a series of warm, intimate spaces. The restaurant serves as a pop-up venue on Wednesdays, while the rest of the week, it’s a special-occasion venue and the headquarters of Elaine’s 24-year-old catering business, Food Fanatics.

The garden is just as beautiful, with landscaped alcoves overlooking the vegetable and herb garden and a Bedouin tent perfect for summer evenings. In winter, the tent is enclosed with outdoor heaters, and there are blankets to keep you warm. Alternatively, you can book one of the cozy tables by the Victorian fireplace indoors.

A Delicious Menu at The Homestead Kitchen

The Homestead Kitchen’s menu is styled as tapas but is generous in quantity. The lamb encrusted with coriander salt, and the calamari grilled with chorizo are both heavenly, as is the melanzane Parmigiana. Hearty winter warmers such as cassoulet of white beans, pork, confit duck, and sausage; shoulder of lamb pampoenkoekies (pumpkin cakes); and classic steak and chips will have you returning for more. Several vegetarian options include the lentil paneer-stuffed aubergine with chili mint yogurt; and vegetable tempura with a soy dip.

First Thursday Gin Tastings

The Homestead Kitchen also hosts First Thursday gin tastings with Six Dogs Distillery (alternating with other guest distillers), accompanied by live music and their winter tapas menu.

Special Occasions at The Homestead Kitchen

In addition to pop-up Wednesdays and First Thursdays, Elaine and her team host other special-occasion events such as Father’s Day lunch. You can also book the venue for your special events, including weddings, baby showers, and private parties.
